As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

Officers Investigate a Hit Shooting: On May 20, 2023, at approximately 10:42 p.m., officers responded to the area of Webster Avenue and Spring Street regarding a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female adult victim with non-life-threatening injuries to her upper body. The preliminary investigation indicates two vehicles, pulled alongside each other. A female adult suspect and the victim exited their vehicles and engaged in a physical fight. During the fight, occupants of both vehicles fired guns at one another, striking the victim. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived. Officers located evidence, including bullet casings and strike marks, indicating a shooting had occurred. Long Beach Fire Department personnel provided medical aid and transported the victim to a local hospital. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

Officers Investigate a Stabbing: On May 20, 2023, at approximately 10:55 p.m., officers responded to a hospital in the City of San Pedro regarding a stabbing that occurred in the City of Long Beach. Upon arrival, officers contacted the male adult victim with non-life-threatening injuries to his upper body. The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 10:20 p.m., the victim was in the area of 7th Street and Golden Avenue when he was stabbed. The victim checked himself in to a hospital in San Pedro where he was treated for his injuries. The victim was uncooperative with the investigation. No suspect information is known and the motive for the stabbing is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.

Officers Investigate a Hit Shooting: On May 21, 2023, at approximately 2:23 a.m., officers responded to the 5600 block of Paramount Avenue regarding a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body. The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was outside when he and the male adult suspect had a verbal dispute. The suspect then fired several shots at the victim. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Officers located evidence, including bullet casings and strike marks, indicating a shooting had occurred. Responding officers performed life-saving measures on the victim until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
