As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Officers Investigate a Fatal Traffic Collision - Today at approximately 2:25 a.m., officers responded to the area of the Pacific Coast Highway and the 103 Freeway Overpass regarding an injury traffic collision. Upon arrival, officers located a single vehicle that had been involved in a traffic collision. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and determined a male adult passenger deceased at the scene. The driver, also an adult male, was transported to a local hospital by Fire Department personnel in stable condition, with moderate injuries. Collision Investigation Detectives responded to further the investigation, and the cause of the accident is still being determined. A news releasing detailing the incident is forthcoming.

Officers Investigate a Stabbing - Today at approximately 5:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of East Broadway regarding a battery. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening stab wound who stated while he was not the victim of a battery, he was stabbed in a nearby location. The victim was uncooperative in providing a location of the crime. Officers transported the victim to a local hospital for his injuries. No suspect information is known, and the investigation is ongoing.

Officers Investigate a Stabbing - Today at approximately 3:41 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 900 block of E 4th Street regarding a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body. Long Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for their injuries. The preliminary investigation suggests the victim and a known male adult suspect were engaged in a verbal dispute, which escalated when the suspect stabbed the victim. The victim fled on foot in an unknown direction prior to officers’ arrival. As officers were conducting their investigation, the suspect returned to the scene, where he was subsequently arrested and transported to Long Beach City jail for booking. The suspect was identified as Ian William Rattray, a 40-year-old resident of Long Beach who was booked on one count of attempted murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $1,000,000.
