LBPD Blotter - March 21, 2024

As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Hit Shooting – 1000 block of Walnut Avenue – On March 20, 2024 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Walnut Avenue regarding a shots call.  Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with a non-life-threating gunshot wound to his upper torso. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to the local hospital for his injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates the three unknown male adult suspects approached the victim, and engaged him in a brief altercation, which escalated when one of the suspects shot the victim. The suspects fled southbound on Walnut Avenue before officers’ arrival. Gangs detectives responded to the scene to further the investigation. The suspects information and the motive for the shooting are unknown. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Homicide Investigation - 100 block of Eagle Street - On March 20, 2024 at approximately 4:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of East Eagle Street regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with a life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper body. Officers rendered medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult suspect discharged a firearm near the area when it struck the victim. The suspect fled the scene before officers’ arrival. Homicide detectives are on scene.The investigation is ongoing. A new release detailing this incident is forthcoming. 

  • Traffic Fatality - 800 block of Long Beach Boulevard - On March 20, 2024, at approximately 5:54 PM, officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Long Beach Boulevard for an injury traffic collision involving a motorcycle and the Metro Line. Upon arrival, officers attempted life-saving measures on a male adult motorcyclist that was lying in the roadway.  The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was pronounced deceased by Long Beach Fire Department personnel.  The investiagtion is ongoing. A news release detailing this incident is forthcoming.
