As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.


Officers investigate a shots call with SWAT activation:

  • Update Published 1:40 p.m.: The suspect was taken into custody and the street closures have been lifted.

  • Original Published 9:05 a.m.:On June 27, 2023, at approximately 6:33 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of East 7th Street regarding a shots call. The preliminary investigation indicates that a male adult suspect fired a gun at the adult male victim’s unoccupied vehicle. The suspect was observed fleeing into his residence. Officers established a perimeter and the SWAT Team was activated, nearby residents evacuated and/or sheltered in place. *Negotiators are onscene and attempting to deescalate the situation.* At this time, no injuries have been reported. Nearby road closures are in effect on Elm Avenue between 6th Street and 7th Street and the intersection of Linden Avenue and 7th Street. The investigation is ongoing.

    *Correction 10:30 am: Officers have not been able to make contact with the suspect, as previously stated*

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers investigate a hit-shooting: On June 27, 2023 at approximately 3:00 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of West Broadway regarding a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department and personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for their non-life-threating injuries. The victim stated he in a parked vehicle in the area of West Broadway when he was approached by a male adult suspect. A brief verbal altercation occurred, the victim exited the vehicle which resulted in a shooting. The suspect fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.Officers were unable to locate a crime scene in connection to the victim. No other injuries were reported. At this time, no suspect information is available, and the motive for the shooting in unknown. The investigation is ongoing.

Updated 6/27/2023 at 11:10 a.m.: 

  • Officers served a search warrant and arrest suspect: 

    Our LBPD detectives and North Division Directed Enforcement Team (DET) served a search warrant following an investigation regarding a hit shooting that occurred on June 25, 2023. Through their investigation, officers developed enough probable cause to obtain a search warrant for a male adult suspect in the city of Compton.

    On June 26, 2023, during their search warrant service detectives and officers contacted a male adult suspect in the 19000 Reyes Street in the City of Compton and recovered an unserialized firearm. Officers arrested the suspect, Daniel Pate, a 28-year-old person experiencing homelessness in Long Beach, who was booked for one count of attempted murder, one count of assault with a firearm, one count of prohibited possessor in possession of a firearm, one count of prohibited possessor in possession of ammunition, one count of felony possession of a firearm.

    Bail was set at $1,000,000. The investigation is ongoing.
