As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

Hit Shooting - 11th Street and Obispo Avenue: On June 23, 2024 at approximately 11:34 p.m., officers responded to the area of 11th Street and Obispo Avenue regarding a hit shooting. The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult victim was standing on the sidewalk when an unknown suspect fired several shots from a vehicle. The suspect fled the area prior to officers’ arrival. The victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury to the lower body and was transported to the hospital by LBFD. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
- Hit Shooting - 6800 Long Beach Boulevard: On June 23, 2024 at approximately 8:54 p.m., officers responded to the 6800 block of Long Beach Boulevard regarding a hit shooting. The incident was later determined to have occurred near Cherry Avenue between Harding Street and Artesia Boulevard. The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult victim was a passenger in a vehicle travelling on Cherry Avenue when a group of male adults riding motorcycles blocked the roadway. After a verbal altercation with the group, an unknown suspect from the group fired shots at the victim’s vehicle, striking the victim. The victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury to the upper body and was transported by LBFD to a local hospital. Officers were unable to locate a crime scene. The investigation is ongoing.
- On June 23, 2024 at approximately 6:55 p.m., High Crime Focus Team officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a bicycle. The suspect fled from officers and discarded a firearm and ammunition. Officers safely recovered the firearm; the suspect is outstanding.
