As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
UPDATE at 12:20 p.m.:
Officers investigate a traffic collision - Today at approximately 9:14 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Cherry Avenue and 7th Street regarding an injury traffic collision. Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles that were involved in a traffic collision. Officers contacted an uninjured female adult driver, who was transported by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital for precautionary reasons. The preliminary investigation suggests the female adult driver was backing of a parking spot when she was struck by a vehicle driving eastbound on 7th Street. No injuries were reported. All drivers stayed on scene and cooperated with investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

- Officers investigate a no-hit shooting - On June 23, 2023 at approximately 7:47 p.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Pine Avenue regarding a no-hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including casings, indicating a shooting occurred. The suspect(s) had fled prior to officers’ arrival. No injuries were reported. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
- Officers investigate a negligent discharge of a firearm - On June 23, 2023 at approximately 9:48 p.m., officers responded to the 2400 block of Cedar Avenue regarding a negligent discharge of a firearm. Upon arrival, located evidence, including bullet casings, indicating a shooting occurred. No injuries were reported, no suspect information is known, and the motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation is on-going.
- Officers investigate a stabbing and arrest suspect - On June 23, 2023 at approximately 10:18 p.m., officers were dispatched to an out of city hospital regarding a stabbing victim for an incident that occurred in Long Beach. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim who self-transported to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body and lower body. A female adult witness stated that she was at a residence in the 6000 block of Brayton Avenue when the victim and male juvenile suspect were involved in a dispute which escalated when the suspect the suspect stabbed the victim with a knife. The victim and suspect were known to each other. Officers responded to the scene and located a knife. The suspect was arrested and transported to Long Beach City jail for booking. Motive for the stabbing is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
- Officers investigate a stabbing and arrest suspect - On June 24, 2023, at approximately 12:09 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Bellflower Boulevard regarding a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female adult victim suffering from non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body. The victim stated that she was at a residence of the known male adult suspect when he began to punch her, which resulted in the suspect stabbing the victim. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for their non-life-threating injuries. The suspect was still at the scene when officers arrived, resulting him being arrested and transported to Long Beach City jail for booking. The suspect was identified as Richardo Black, a 65-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked for attempted murder and an open warrant. Bail was set at $1,050,000. The investigation is ongoing.
- Officers investigate a fatal shooting - On June 24, 2023, at approximately 12:59am, officers responded to a dispute and hit shooting in the 600 block of Roycroft Avenue, which resulted in the death of a female adult at the scene. Homicide detectives are on scene to determine the facts of the shooting and the investigation is ongoing. A news release detailing the incident is forthcoming.
