As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
- Officers Investigate a No-Hit Shooting: On July 6, 2023, at approximately 7:56 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Aquarium Way regarding a shooting. The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult suspect was in a parking lot in the 200 block of Aquarium way and revealed his firearm and discharged the firearm towards the male adult victim. Officers were able to locate a suspect who matched the description given by the calling party. After a short foot pursuit, officers caught up to the suspect, arrested him, located a firearm and subsequently transported him to Long Beach City Jail for booking. The suspect was identified as Yoranyt Martinez, a 19-year-old resident of the City of Compton, who was booked for attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm, prohibited possessor of a firearm, prohibited processor in possession of ammunition, negligent discharge of a firearm, and child endangerment. Bail is set at $1,000,000. The investigation is on-going.
- Officers Investigate a Shooting: On July 7, 2023 at approximately 6:12 a.m., officers responded to the area of 60th Street and Atlantic Avenue regarding a shooting. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
Update - 11:45 a.m - The preliminary investigation indicates the victim and suspect vehicles were involved in a traffic collision near the above location. The victim exited his vehicle, was struck by the suspect vehicle, and then shot in the upper body. The Long Beach Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital. The suspect(s) and suspect vehicle are outstanding. There is no additional suspect/suspect vehicle information; however, officers have located a crime scene and possible video evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
