As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

No-Hit Shooting – 6000 block of Cerritos Avenue - Today at approximately 3:35 a.m., officers responded to the 6000 block of Cerritos Avenue regarding a shots call, later determined to be a shooting into an inhabited dwelling. Upon arrival, located evidence, including bullet casings and strike marks, indicating a shooting had occurred. No injuries were reported, no suspect information is known, and the motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.

Stabbing – Locust Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway - On July 21, 2023 at approximately 8:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Locust Avenue regarding an attempt robbery and stabbing. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female adult victim with a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. The victim stated they were walking in the area of Locust Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, when they were suddenly physically assaulted by an unknown male suspect. During the assault, the suspect stabbed the victim and took the victim’s purse. A good Samaritan interjected himself into the situation, chased off the suspect, and recovered the victim’s purse. The motive for the incident and additional suspect information are unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
