As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

Stabbing – 39th Place and Midaway Street: On July 1, 2024 at approximately 6:29 p.m., officers responded to the area of 39th Place and Midway Street regarding a stabbing call. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital in stable condition. The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult suspect and male adult victim who were known to each other, were involved in a verbal dispute which escalated when the suspect stabbed the victim. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Suspect information is under investigation and the investigation is ongoing.
- No-Hit Shooting - 15th Street and Cherry Avenue - On July 2, 2024 at approximately 1:22 a.m. officers responded to the area of 15th street and Cherry Avenue regarding a no-hit shooting. The Preliminary investigation indicates a female adult victim was in a vehicle driving near the area when an unknown suspect fired multiple shots in their direction. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. No injuries or damage were reported. Officers were unable to locate evidence of a shooting. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are under investigation and the investigation is ongoing.
- Hit- Shooting - 300 block of Market Street - On July 2, 2024 at approximately 1:53 a.m. officers responded to the 300 block of Market Street regarding a hit-shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned the victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition by a private ambulance to treat his non-life-threatening injuries. Preliminary investigation indicates the male adult victim was in a vehicle parked near the area when two unknown suspects approached the car and discharged a firearm, striking the victim. The suspects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
- Homicide Investigation - Long Beach Boulevard and Victoria Street - Homicide detectives are investigating a murder that occurred on July 1, 2024, in the area of Long Beach Boulevard and Victoria Street. A news release detailing the incident is forthcoming.
