Officers investigate a shooting: On July 12, 2023 at approximately 8:52 p.m., officers responded to the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue regarding a hit shooting report. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department and personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for their non-life-threatening injuries. The victim stated he was in the area of 2300 block of South Street, when he was approached by a known male adult suspect. The suspect revealed a firearm and after a brief verbal altercation shot at the victim, striking him. The suspect fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. At this time, no suspect information is available, and the motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
