LBPD Blotter - July 10, 2023

As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers investigate a stabbing: On July 10, 2023, at approximately 12:27 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 300 block of West 14th Street regarding a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim and a female adult victim each with non-life-threatening injuries to the upper body and a male adult suspect, who sustained injuries to the upper body and is listed in critical condition. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victims and suspect to local hospitals for their injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates a verbal altercation occurred between the victims and the known suspect at a known residence, which resulted in a stabbing. The suspect has been arrested, but remains at the hospital. The investigation is ongoing. 

  • Update 4:45 p.m. - Officers respond to a suspicious person: Early this morningat approximately 4:48 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of East San Antonio Drive regarding a suspicious person. The first responding officer came across a woman sitting on top of her car, and after taking the time to talk to her, realized she may be having suicidal thoughts and was in possession of a gun. SWAT personnel, a negotiator, and the Mental Evaluation Team responded to the scene to help in de-escalating the situation and find a peaceful resolution. Officers did a great job slowing things down and truly taking the time to talk to the woman. Eventually, they were able to take her into custodyOfficers located casings inside the vehicle. Our incredible officers skillfully de-escalated the situation with a peaceful resolution, ensuring the safety of everyone involved. Great work! 
    Update 7:30 p.m. - Updated to include the role of SWAT personnel in the successful de-escalation and safe apprehension of the woman.
