UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: Officers investigate a traffic collision: On July 1, 2023, at approximately 11:29 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Del Amo Boulevard and Orange Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision. The preliminary investigation indicates that a single vehicle collided with a utility pole with telephone and internet wires, the male adult driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A second collision occurred when another passing vehicle struck the downed wires, without any injuries reported. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and the first driver refused medical treatment. Impaired driving appears to be a factor in this case. Officers took the first driver into custody and transported him to a local hospital for medical treatment, prior to booking. The investigation is ongoing.

Del Amo Boulevard between Orange Avenue and Cherry Avenue will be closed for an extended period due to the downed wires.
