As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

  • Stabbing – 1000 block of Magnolia Avenue – On Jan. 28, 2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Magnolia Avenue regarding a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim suffering from stab wounds to the upper body.  Officers rendered medical aid to the victim until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital, in critical but stable condition. The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was stabbed by an unknown suspect who fled the scene before officers arrived. Officers were unable to locate a crime scene. The motive for the stabbing is unknown. The investigation is ongoing. 

    Update: 1/30/24 at 3:08 p.m. to the below in bold - Upon further investigation, officers determined the incident occured in the City of Compton. 

  • Hit Shooting - Long Beach Boulevard and Plymouth Street- On Jan. 28, 2024, at approximately 10:43 p.m., officers responded to an out-of-city hospital regarding an assault with a deadly weapon report. Upon arrival, officers contacted a 17-year-old female victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body, who stated she was in the area of Long Beach Boulevard and Plymouth Street when she heard gunshots and noticed she was struck by gunfire. The victim self-transported to the hospital. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are unknown. Officers responded to the area described by the victim but were unable to locate a crime scene. The investigation is ongoing.
