As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Officers investigate a negligent discharge: On Jan. 9, 2024, at approximately 9:01 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Cedar Avenue regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including strike marks and bullet casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. No injuries were reported. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

*UPDATE* at 3:20 p.m. The suspect surrendered and was safely taken into custody and is currently awaiting booking.

Officers investigate a stabbing: Today at 9:17 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 5100 block of Raton Circle regarding a stabbing. The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult suspect stabbed a male adult victim. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and transported the victim in stable condition to a local hospital for his injuries. At this time, we believe the suspect and victim are known to each other. It is believed the suspect is inside a residence. Officers have established a perimeter and SWAT has been activated. The investigation is ongoing.
