As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers Investigate a hit-shooting:  On 2/8/23, at approximately 7:20 p.m., officers responded to the 1500 block of West Parade Street regarding a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Through their investigation, officers determined the victim was involved in a verbal dispute with a suspect that escalated to the shooting; The suspect fled the scene prior to officers arrival. The Long Beach Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

    Officers Investigate a non-fatal stabbing: On 2/8/23, at approximately 6:01 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Orange Avenue regarding a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a female adult victim suffering stab wounds to the upper body. Officers determined that the victim and a female adult suspect were involved in a verbal dispute inside a residence that escalated to the stabbing. Officers arrested the suspect at the scene and seized a knife. The Long Beach Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was identified as Jan Reene, a 63-year-old resident of Long Beach who will be booked for one count of assault with a deadly weapon. The bail amount has not yet been set. The investigation is ongoing.
