As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Hit Shooting- 500 Block of Orange Ave- On February 25, 2024 at approximately 2:45 a.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Orange Avenue regarding a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital in stable condition. The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim, accompanied by a female adult, had parked their vehicle. Four male adult suspects driving southbound on Orange Avenue, in two separate vehicles, exited their vehicles and demanded the male adult victim’s keys. The victim refused and one of the suspects discharged their firearm and shot the victim. The suspects fled the scene in their vehicle prior to officers’ arrival. No other injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
No-Hit Shooting- 1000 Block of Olive Avenue- On February 24, 2024 at approximately 8:26 p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Olive Avenue regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including bullet casings indicating a shooting had occurred. The preliminary investigation indicates that a male adult suspect was walking northbound when he discharged a firearm into the air. The suspect fled on foot prior to officers’ arrival. No injuries were reported, the investigation is ongoing.
No-Hit Shooting- 300 Block of Rhea Street- On February 24, 2024 at approximately 6:59 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Rhea Street regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female adult victim, a male adult victim and a juvenile victim with no injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates that the victims were driving southbound in their vehicle, when a dispute between the male adult victim and approximately eight suspects on foot occurred. The victims heard gunshots and drove away from the scene. Officers located evidence indicating a shooting had occurred. The suspects fled prior to the officers’ arrival. No injuries were reported, the investigation is ongoing.
