Welcome to the LBPD Blotter!

As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers Investigate Non-Fatal Hit Shooting - On 2/20/2023, at approximately 2:07 a.m., officers responded to the area of Pacific Avenue and Broadway regarding a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body. Officers rendered aid until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department personnel who transported the victim to a local hospital in critical, but stable condition. Gang detectives responded to the scene and determined that a short time prior to the shooting, the victim was involved in a physical altercation with multiple subjects near the 100 block of Pine Avenue. Shortly after, an unknown suspect driving a sedan pulled up next to the victim, shot him, and fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. At this time, detectives are working to determine if the shooting is connected to the physical altercation. Officers located evidence, including casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. No other injuries were reported. At this time, no suspect information is available, and the investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Gang Detectives Benjamin Hearst at (562) 570-7718 or Holden Deaton (562) 570-7276. Anonymous tips may be submitted through "LA Crime Stoppers" by calling 800-222-TIPS (8477), downloading the "P3 Tips" app to your smartphone (available at the Apple app store or Google Play), or by visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.

This information is preliminary and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report.
