As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

  • Hit-Shooting – 5300 block of E. 2nd Street – On Feb. 18, 2024, at approximately 12:58 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 5300 block of E. 2nd Street regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for his injuries. The preliminary investigation suggests the victim and an unknown number of male subjects, were involved in a verbal dispute with a group of unknown male suspects. This verbal dispute escalated when one of the suspects revealed a firearm and shot the victim. The suspects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. No other injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.

  • Hit-Shooting – 1500 block of Seabright Avenue – On Feb. 17, 2024, at approximately 9:28 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Seabright Avenue regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for his injuries. The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was engaged in a verbal altercation with an unknown male adult subject, which escalated into a fight. During the fight, the suspect revealed a firearm and subsequently shot the victim. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. No other injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.

  • No-Hit-Shooting – 20th Street and Pine Avenue – On Feb. 17, 2024, at approximately 6:47 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 20th Street and Pine Avenue regarding a shots call, later determined to be a negligent discharge. Upon arrival, officers contacted an uninjured male adult victim who stated he was in the area, when he was approached by an unknown male adult suspect. After a brief verbal exchange, the suspect revealed a firearm and discharged a round into the air before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
