As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
No-Hit Shooting - 1600 block of Junipero Avenue - On Feb. 11, 2024, at approximately 6:48 p.m., officers responded to the 1600 block of Junipero Ave regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers located evidence indicating a shooting had occurred. The suspect was described as a male adult. No injuries were reported, and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. The suspect fled before police arrived and the investigation is ongoing.
Hit Shooting – 600 block of Orange Avenue - On Feb. 12, 2024 at approximately 1:33 a.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Orange Ave regarding a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a gunshot wound to his lower body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Officers located evidence of a shooting. The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was in the area when he was approached by an unknown vehicle with an unknown number of occupants. One occupant engaged the victim in a verbal altercation. The victim ran away, at which point the suspect shot the victim. The unknown suspect(s) fled before in a dark-colored sedan before police arrived. Detectives responded to the scene, the motive for the shooting is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
Hit Shooting – 100 block of East Pacific Coast Highway - On Feb. 12, 2024, at approximately 1:37 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of East Pacific Coast Highway regarding a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. Officers rendered medical aid to the victim until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. The preliminary investigation indicates a verbal altercation occurred between two groups, which escalated when there was an exchange of gunfire. The suspects fled before police arrived. The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related. Detectives responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
Stabbing – 700 block of East 6th Street - On Feb. 12, 2024, at approximately 3:19 a.m., officers responded to the 700 block of East 6th Street regarding a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female adult victim suffering from non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital The preliminary investigation indicates the victim and a male adult suspect had a brief verbal altercation, which escalated when the suspect stabbed the victim. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. The victim and suspect are known to one another. The investigation is ongoing.
