Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
- Officers investigate a person with a gun with SWAT activation: On Dec. 2, 2023 at approximately 2:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of Santa Fe Avenue regarding a person with a gun call. The preliminary investigation indicates that a male adult suspect and a male adult victim were in a dispute when the suspect threatened the victim and pointed an object that the victim believed to be a firearm at him. Upon arrival, police observed the suspect, who fled inside a residence and barricaded himself inside. SWAT was activated and attempted to deescalate the situation, but the suspect remained uncooperative. While attempting to take the suspect into custody, officers used tear gas. The suspect surrendered and was arrested. Officers transported the suspect to a local hospital to be medically cleared prior to booking.
The suspect was identified as Michael Brown, a 53-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked for assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, resisting arrest, and a prior warrant. Bail was set at $150,000. The investigation is ongoing.
- Officers investigate a stabbing: On Dec. 3, 2023 at approximately 2:54 a.m., officers responded to the 5100 block of Atlantic Avenue regarding an assist fire call. The preliminary investigation indicates that the female adult victim and female adult suspect were in physical altercation when the suspect stabbed the victim with an unknown sharp object in the upper body. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Suspect information is under investigation, but the suspect and victim are possibly known to each other. The investigation is ongoing.
This information is preliminary and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report.
