Welcome to the LBPD Blotter!

As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Statement from the LBPD:
Last night, there were several shootings, including one homicide, in our community. Gun violence is not tolerated - We are currently working to identify and arrest the suspects responsible for these incidents.

Today and through the weekend, our detectives, officers, and professional staff will continue to follow all leads and actively investigate each of these shootings. We are adjusting our operations so that we may further engage with our community, pursue new leads, and prevent any further crime from occurring. 

We are committed to sharing information with our community as it becomes available. At this time, it is not known if any of these incidents are related to each other or any other recent incidents in our city. Our personnel are working hard to solve each of these crimes. We will provide updates as they become available.

Here’s a summary of incidents occurring last night:

  • No-hit shooting - 1000 block of Gaviota Avenue: On Dec. 21, 2023 at approximately 7:38 p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Gaviota Avenue regarding a shots call. The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult victim was approached by a male adult suspect who shot at him, then fled. The victim was not struck. No injuries were reported. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. The investigation is ongoing. 

  • Hit Shooting - Polynesian Drive and Lei Drive: On Dec. 21, 2023 at approximately 8:28 p.m., officers responded to a hit shooting near Polynesian Drive and Lei Drive.The preliminary investigation indicates two male adult victims were walking in the area when a possible disputeled to them being shot at by a male suspect in a dark-color truck, which then drove away. The suspect and victim are known to each other. One of the victims was struck in thelower body and was driven by the uninjured victimto the hospital. He is in stable condition. Gang Detectives responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing. 

  • Hit Shooting - 1000 block of Gaviota Avenue: On Dec. 21, 2023 at approximately 9:40 p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Gaviota Avenue regarding a hit shooting.The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult victim was shot by an unknown suspect(s) in a light-color sedan. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for his non-life-threatening injuries. Gang detectives responded to the scene.While the investigation is ongoing, it is believed this incident is related to the shots call in the same area earlier in the evening. The investigation is ongoing. 
  • Homicide Investigation - 200 block of Eagle StreetHomicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Dec. 21, 2023 at approximately 10:21 p.m. in the 200 block of Eagle Street. A male adult victim was determined deceased at the scene by Long Beach Fire personnel. A second male adult victim was transported to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury to the extremity. A news release is forthcoming and will be posted here.
  • Hit Shooting - Unknown Location: On Dec. 21, 2023 at approximately 10:39 p.m., officers responded to a local hospital regarding a male adult victim, who walked into the hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper body. At this time, it is unknown where the shooting occurred. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Traffic Fatality - Willow Street and Easy Avenue: On Dec. 21, 2023 at approximately 11:02 p.m., officers responded to Willow Street and Easy Avenue regarding a hit-and-run collision, which resulted in the death of a female adult pedestrian. A news release is forthcoming and will be posted here.

  • Stabbing - 900 block of Washington PlaceOn Dec. 22, 2023 at approximately 2:45 a.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Washington Place regarding a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body. The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim and male adult suspect engaged in a physical altercation, which resulted in the suspect stabbing the victim. The victim and suspect are known to each other. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for his non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was arrested and transported to Long Beach City Jail for booking. He is identified Juan Carlos Nagrete, a 45-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked attempted murder, parole violation and fail to register with felony sex offender. Bail is set at no bail. The investigation is ongoing. 

  • No-hit shooting - 2100 block of Elm Avenue: On Dec. 22, 2023 at approximately 6:46 a.m., officers responded to the 2100 block of Elm Avenue regarding a no-hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an uninjured male adult victim. The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was in his vehicle when he was approached by a male adult suspect, who attempted to enter the victim’s vehicle. The suspect revealed a firearm and after a brief verbal altercation, subsequently discharged a firearm towards the victim’s direction, striking the vehicle. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
