Officers investigate a shooting: On Dec. 18, 2023 at approximately 5:09 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of 14th Street regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to the local hospital for his injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was working inside a business when a male adult suspect approached with a gun and demanded money, which escalated when the suspect shot the victim. The victim produced a firearm and fired into the ceiling. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Suspect information is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
