Officers investigate a negligent discharge: On Dec. 17, 2023 at approximately 5:06 p.m., officers responded to the 3200 block of Chestnut Avenue regarding a person with a gun. The preliminary investigation indicates that a male adult suspect fired a gun outside in a negligent manner. The suspect remained on scene and was arrested. Officers recovered a firearm. No injuries were reported. The suspect was identified as Nelson Batino Sapida, a 54-year-old resident of Long Beach who was booked for a negligent discharge of a firearm. Bail was set at $35,000. The investigation is ongoing.
