As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Officers investigate a fatal traffic collision: On Dec. 9. 2023 at approximately 5:26 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of Atlantic Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision. Upon arrival, officers located a female adult pedestrian laying in the road with life-threating injuries. Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene, and despite life-saving efforts from Fire Department personnel, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The preliminary investigation suggests a vehicle driving southbound on Atlantic Avenue struck the pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle, a male adult, initially left the scene, but later returned and cooperated with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing. A news release detailing the incident is forthcoming and will be posted here.

Officers investigate a shooting: On Dec. 9, 2023, at approximately 9:11 p.m., officers were dispatched to a local hospital regarding a male adult victim suffering non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body. According to the victim, he was in the area of Martin Luther King Avenue and New York Street when he heard gunshots and discovered he had been struck. The victim self-transported to the hospital. The suspect(s) fled the scene before police arrived. Officers were unable to locate a crime scene. Suspect information and motive for the shooting is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

Officers investigate a robbery and shooting: On Dec. 10, 2023, at approximately 6:31 a.m., officers responded to the 1300 block of Cedar Avenue regarding a shooting. The preliminary investigation indicates the male adult victim was outside when he was approached by the male adult suspect. The suspect threatened the victim with a gun and robbed him. The victim ran away and heard a gunshot. The victim was not struck. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived. Officers located evidence, indicating that a shooting had occurred. Suspect information is under investigation. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
