As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.


Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Homicide detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred on August 6, 2023 at approximately 7:21 p.m. near 29th Street and Chestnut Avenue. Preliminary investigation indicates three male adults were involved in an altercation which escalated to a shooting. All three adults sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals – two sustained non-life-threatening injuries, one died at the hospital.  Circumstances and motive are currently being investigated;  we will have additional information available in a news release later today.
  • Officers are investigating a shooting where a male adult victim was struck by gunfire. On August 7, 2023 at approximately 3:44 a.m., officers responded to a shooting near Pine Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. Preliminary investigation indicates a male adult victim was sitting in the area when he was struck by gunfire. He sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body and was transported by a bystander to a local hospital. Officers located evidence, including casings and strike marks. Motive and suspect information is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing. 
LBPD is seeking the public's help in locating an at-risk missing person - 15-year-old Robert Hunt-Taylor, last seen 8/7/23 about 12:22 a.m., leaving his residence in the 1800 block of Cedar Avenue. His destination is unknown and he's in need of medical attention.
