As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
- Officers investigate a hit shooting: On Aug. 28, 2023, at approximately 6:04 p.m., officers responded to the 6600 block of Long Beach Boulevard regarding a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers rendered aid to the victim and were relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel, who continued to render aid and transported the victim to a local hospital. The circumstances of the shooting and motive is under investigation.
- Officers investigate a no-hit shooting: On Aug. 28, 2023 at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers responded to the 3400 block of Curry Street regarding a no hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a calling party, who stated she had just parked her vehicle in the driveway, when she heard presumed gunfire coming from unknown and noticed the vehicle had been struck. The victims were not injured, and the unknown suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Officers located evidence, including bullet casings and strike marks indicating a shooting had occurred. At this time, no suspect information is available, and the motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
