As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

No-Hit Shooting – On Aug. 26, 2023, at approximately 10:06 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Pine Avenue regarding a shots call, later determined to be a shooting into an inhabited dwelling. Upon arrival, officers contacted the calling party who stated she was in her residence when she observed a male adult suspect in an alleyway discharge a firearm in the air. While officers were on scene, the calling party spotted the suspect and pointed him out to police. Officers detained the suspect, recovered the firearm and ammunition, and subsequently transported the suspect to Long Beach City jail for booking. The suspect was identified as Jhonny Murrillo, a 36-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked on one count of carrying a loaded firearm, one count of possession of a controlled substance, and one count of negligent discharge. Bail was set at $100,000.
Hit-Shooting – On Aug. 26, 2023, at approximately 10:11 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Long Beach Boulevard regarding a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female adult victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for her injuries. The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was with a known male adult subject, her boyfriend, inside his residence, when a known female adult suspect entered the residence and engaged in a verbal dispute with victim and male subject. This dispute escalated when the suspect revealed a firearm and shot the victim. The suspect fled on foot towards an unknown direction before officers arrived. No suspect additional suspect information is available, and the investigation is ongoing.
