Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers investigate a stabbing: On Aug. 20, 2023 at approximately 12:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Pine Avenue regarding a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers contacted three male adult victims, two with non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body and one with non-life-threatening injuries to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for their injuries.  The preliminary investigation indicates that a verbal altercation had occurred between the victims and an unknown number of male adult suspects, which resulted in a fight between both parties, which escalated when the victims were stabbed. The suspects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. At this time, no suspect information is available, and the motive for the stabbing is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Officers investigate a negligent discharge of a firearm: On Aug. 20, 2023 at approximately 4:54 a.m., officers responded to the area of Chestnut and Ellis Street regarding a shots call, later determined to be a shooting in an inhabited dwelling. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including bullet casings and strike marks, indicating a shooting had occurred. No injuries were reported, no suspect information is known, and the motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
This information is preliminary and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report.
