As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Update at 4:45 p.m.:
- Officers investigate a hit-shooting - Today at approximately 3:49 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of Willow Street regarding a hit-shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene to treat the victim for their injuries. The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was driving their vehicle westbound on Willow Street when he observed the vehicle behind him, driven by a male adult suspect, pointing, and shooting a firearm in his direction, subsequently striking the victim. The suspect fled towards an unknown direction prior to officers’ arrival. Westbound Willow Street from Bellflower Boulevard to Redondo Avenue is currently closed to traffic. The investigation is ongoing.

Officers investigate a stabbing and robbery – On Aug. 1, 2023 at approximately 11:11 p.m., officers were dispatched to a local hospital regarding a stabbing victim. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body. The victim stated he was walking in the 1000 block of Mars Court, when he was approached by two unknown male suspects who demanded the victim’s belongings and subsequently escalated when of the suspects stabbed the victim. Following the stabbing, the suspects fled on foot towards an unknown direction, and the victim self-transported to a local hospital. The loss was miscellaneous clothing. No suspect information is available, and the investigation is ongoing.

Officers investigate a hit shooting – Today at approximately 4:25 a.m.*, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Loma Avenue regarding a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted two male adult victims, one uninjured and one with a non-life-threatening injury to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene, however the injured male victim declined transportation to a local hospital. The preliminary investigation suggests the victims were driving in the area of 14th Street and Ohio Avenue, when they heard presumed gunfire and observed gunfire coming from the vehicle behind them. The victim vehicle was struck by gunfire, and they continued to drive until they reached safety and called police. The suspect vehicle fled towards an unknown direction prior to officers’ arrival. No suspect information nor motive is known, and the investigation is unknown.
