As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Murder – 600 Block of East South Street: Homicide detectives are investigating a murder that occurred on Aug. 18, 2024, in the 600 block of East South Street. A news release can be found here.

  • No-Hit Shooting - 5800 Lime Avenue: On Aug. 18, 2024 at approximately 11:52 p.m., officers responded to the 5800 block of Lime Avenue regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers located an unoccupied vehicle with strike marks and evidence indicating a shooting had occurred. The suspect(s) fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Suspect(s) information and the motive for the shooting are under investigation. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
Great work officers! Yesterday officers safely took two guns off the streets.
  • On Aug. 18 , 2024 at approximately 6:36 p.m., West Division officers conducted a traffic stop near Alamitos Avenue and New York Street. During their investigation, officers determined the passenger had a warrant for his arrest and detained him. They located two firearms in the suspect’s possession and safely recovered both guns. The suspect, who was determined to be a prohibited possessor, was arrested. The investigation is ongoing..
