LBPD Blotter - August 15, 2023

As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers investigate a no-hit shooting: On Aug. 14, 2023 at approximately 5:55 p.m., officers responded to the area of 19th Street and Lime Avenue regarding a shots call, which was later determined to be a no-hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female adult victim. The victim stated she was in her backyard when she heard presumed gunfire and noticed an unknown number of male suspects running through the alley. The victim then witnessed the suspects fire additional shots nearly striking the victim. The victim was not injured, and the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Negligent Discharge of a Firearm: On Aug. 15, 2023 at approximately 2:44 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Arbor Street regarding a shots call, later determined to be a shooting in an inhabited dwelling. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including bullet casings and strike marks, indicating a shooting had occurred. No injuries were reported, no suspect information is known, and the motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Officers investigate a stabbing: On Aug. 15, 2023 at approximately 3:02 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of East Pacific Coast Highway regarding a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with non-life-threatening injuries to the lower body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for their injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates  the victim was in the area of Anaheim Street and Martin Luther King Avenue when he was approached by an unknown female suspect and was suddenly stabbed. At this time, no suspect information is available, and the motive for the stabbing is unknown. The investigation is ongoing. 

  • Homicide detectives are investigating a homicide: On Aug. 15, 2023, at approximately 4:43 a.m., officers responded to the 3400 block of Andy Street regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victimwith gunshot wounds to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and determined the victim deceased at the scene. Homicide detectives responded to the scene to further the investigation. A news release detailing the incident is forthcoming.
