As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers investigate a negligent discharge: On Aug. 10, 2023, at approximately 1:54 a.m., officers responded to the 1300 block of Junipero Avenue regarding a negligent discharge. Officers learned that the shooting occurred in the 2400 block of East Anaheim Street. The preliminary investigation indicates that a group of 4-6 male subjects were standing outside, when a male adult suspect in the group fired a gun into the air multiple times. The group fled the scene before police arrived. Officers located evidence, including bullet casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. No injuries have been reported and the investigation is ongoing.

  • Officers investigate a shooting: On Aug. 10, 2023, at approximately 3:31 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Golden Avenue regarding a shooting. The preliminary investigation indicates that a male adult victim experiencing homelessness was asleep inside his vehicle when an unknown suspect fired a gun several times at the vehicle, striking the victim in the lower body. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Long Beach Fire Department personnel provided medical aid and transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
