As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

UPDATE 4:25 p.m.: Officers Investigate a Fatal Hit-and-Run - Today at approximately 3:13 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of 45th Street regarding an injury hit-and-run. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with life-threatening injuries to the lower body. Responding officers performed life-saving measures on the victim until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The preliminary investigation suggests the driver of a pickup truck was driving reckless near the area of Atlantic Avenue and 45th Street when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the victim. A short while after responding to the scene, officers located a pickup truck matching the suspect vehicle description, detained the driver, and identified him as the suspect. Both lanes of E 45th Street near Atlantic Avenue are closed to traffic. A news release detailing the incident is forthcoming, as the investigation is ongoing.
