LBPD Blotter - 4/23/24

As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.


Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • No-Hit Shooting – 2800 block of Orange Avenue – On April 22, 2024 at approximately 5:29 p.m., officers responded to the 2800 block of Orange Avenue regardinga shots call. Upon arrival, officers located evidence indicating a shooting had occurred. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are under investigation. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.  

  • Hit Shooting – 11th Street and Hoffman Avenue – On April 22, 2024 at approximately 9:54 p.m., officers were dispatched to a local hospital regarding a gunshot wound victim. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. The victim stated he was in the area of 11th Street and Hoffman Avenue when he was approached by a suspect in an unknown vehicle with an unknown number of occupants. A brief verbal altercation occurred, which resulted in the shooting. Officers were unable to locate a crime scene. At this time, no suspect information nor motive is known. The investigation is ongoing.
  • Vehicle Pursuit with SWAT Activation – Long Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway – On April 22, 2024 at approximately 11:18 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop of a suspect vehicle in the area of 15th Street and Locust AvenueWhen officers attempted to conduct a high-risk vehicle stop, the vehicle fled, resulting in a vehicle pursuit. While in pursuit, the suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the driver of the private citizen vehicle to a local hospital for their non-life-threatening injuries.  After the vehicle came to a stop in the area of Long Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway, three suspects attempted to flee the area on foot, which led to a brief foot pursuit. A use of force occurred during the foot pursuit, where officers performed a takedown to take one of the suspects into custodySWAT was activated and established a perimeter to search for the third suspect in the area of North Pasadena Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway.  After a conducting their search, they were unable to locate the outstanding suspect. Officers recovered two firearms from the suspect vehicle. 

    The suspects were identified as:  

    • Michael Tate, a 24-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked for evading a peace officer, vehicle driver/owner to permit other to carry a firearm into a vehicle, of carrying concealed weapon in vehicle, carrying a loaded handgun, carrying a loaded firearm on/in person and vehicle, driving a vehicle with suspended or revoked license, driving under the influence, reckless driving with injury, failure to stop at a red light, failure to stop vehicle at a crosswalk, driving at an unsafe speed, taking vehicle without owner’s consent. Bail is pending magistrate review.  

    • Ronald Frances England, a 27-year-old person experiencing homelessness in Long Beach, who was booked for carrying a loaded handgun, carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, and resisting a peace officer. Bail is pending magistrate review. 

      The investigation is ongoing.
