As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Officers investigating a no-hit shooting with SWAT Team Activation -
- Update Published 3:40 p.m: - At approximately 12:41 A.M., officers responded to the area of Market Street and Cedar Avenue regarding a person with a gun report. Upon arrival, officers determined a group of subjects had been involved in a dispute that escalated when a male adult suspect produced a firearm, fired shots, and fled to a nearby multi-unit residence As officers were establishing a perimeter around the apartment, they heard shots fired several blocks to their west. Additional officers responded to the area the shots were heard, locating casings near Market Street and Pacific Avenue. Approximately thirty minutes later, as officers were continuing their original investigation in the area of Market Street and Cedar Avenue, they heard additional shots being fired several blocks to their east. Detectives later determined that an unknown suspect in the area fired shots at LBPD officers then fled the scene. Casings were located near Market Street and Locust Avenue. No officers nor vehicles were struck by the gunfire. Officers established a perimeter and the LBPD SWAT Team was activated and issued callouts for the suspect(s) to surrender, then conducted a search warrant on the location. Officers arrested David Gonzalesantiago, a 30-year-old resident of Long Beach for one count of prohibited possession of ammunition. Bail was set at $35,000. At this time, it is unknown if any of the three shooting incidents are connected or if the same suspect(s) were involved in each. The arrestee has also not been determined to be a shooting suspect in any of the shootings ; the suspect that fired at officers remains outstanding. No injuries have been reported, no suspect information is available, and the motive for the shootings is unknown.
- Original Published 4:30 a.m.:On 4/16/23, at approximately 12:41 A.M., officers responded to the area of Market Street and Cedar Avenue regarding a person with a gun report. Upon arrival, officers determined a group of subjects had been involved in a dispute that escalated when a male adult suspect produced a firearm, fired shots, and fled to a nearby multi-unit residence. As officers were arriving, they heard multiple shots being fired in the area. Officers established a perimeter and the LBPD SWAT Team was activated and is currently on scene issuing callouts for the suspect(s) to surrender into custody. Officers have detained multiple subjects and are working to determine their involvement with the incident Officers located evidence, including casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. At this time, no injuries have been reported. Nearby road closures are in effect as officers conduct their investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
- Officers investigate a hit shooting - On 4/15/2023, at approximately 6:03 p.m., officers responded to the 2300 block of Pasadena Avenue regarding a report of a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim suffering a gunshot wound to the lower body. The victim stated he was involved in a verbal dispute with a male adult suspect that escalated to the shooting. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown vehicle prior to officers arrival. The Long Beach Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers located evidence, including casings and strike marks, indicating a shooting had occurred. The investigation is ongoing.
