As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers Investigate a Hit-Shooting – On April 13, 2023 at approximately 10:52 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of East Hill Street regarding an assault with a deadly weapon, which was later determined to be a hit-shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. The victim stated he was walking in the area of Hill Street and Lemon Avenue when he was approached by an unknown male suspect. The suspect demanded the victim’s belongings, in which the victim complied, and subsequently resulted in the suspect shooting the victim. The suspect fled on foot prior to officers’ arrival. The victim refused medical attention by Long Beach Fire Department personnel and refused to further cooperate with officers. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Officers Investigate an early morning Hit-Shooting – Today at approximately 5:29 a.m., officers were dispatched the 5100 block of Via Veranada regarding a hit-shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female adult victim with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for their injuries, where she is listed as critical, but stable condition. The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was standing near a residence in the 5100 block of Via Veranada when she heard presumed gunfire coming from an unknown direction and observed you had been struck by gunfire. Suspect information is unknown at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
