As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Update 10:45 a.m.: Officers investigate a traffic collision: On July 9, 2023 at approximately 7:53 a.m. officers responded to a traffic collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist on the intersection of Harding Street and Myrtle Avenue. Upon arrival, officers contacted the bicyclist, a male adult victim with life-threatening injuries. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle before the officer’s arrival. At this time, no suspect information is available. The investigation is ongoing.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
- Officers investigate a stabbing and no-hit shooting: On July 9, 2023 at approximately 1:53 a.m., officers responded to the 4300 block of East Carson Street regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel provided medical aid and transported the victim to a local hospital in stable condition. The preliminary investigation indicates two male adult suspects, and a female adult suspect had a verbal dispute with the victim, which escalated to an altercation and resulted in one of the suspects stabbing the victim. A male suspect discharged a firearm in the air during the altercation, however no injuries were reported. The suspects fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. At this time, no suspect information is available. The investigation is ongoing.
