LBPD Officers make an arrest related to last week's gun on campus incident at Wilson High
Release Date: 2023-12-15
We’d like to share some updates regarding the arrest and investigation related to a juvenile bringing a firearm to Wilson High School last week.
On Thursday, December 7 at approximately 4:15 p.m., there was a fight between a group of teenagers and another teenager in the 1000 block of Junipero Avenue. During this altercation, an unknown male suspect fired shots, striking a 17-year-old victim. The victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury to the lower body and was transported to the hospital.
On Friday, December 8, LBPD and LBUSD personnel responded to the person with a gun call at Wilson High School. LBUSD school safety officers detained the suspect, and LBPD officers subsequently arrested the 15-year-old suspect and recovered a firearm at the scene.
Gangs Detectives coordinated with LBUSD school safety personnel to gather additional information. Through their collaboration, detectives determined the 15-year-old suspect arrested on Friday was among the group of juveniles involved in Thursday's incident. He was not injured. Additionally, detectives identified a 17-year-old male suspect responsible for Thursday’s shooting. He was arrested on Monday and booked for attempted murder.
The motive for last week’s shooting and the juvenile bringing the firearm to school the following day remain under investigation.
Gun violence is not tolerated in our community. We'd like to commend our police officers and gang detectives as well as our partners at LBUSD for their excellent work in investigating this case and making these arrests.
Lastly, we'd like to recognize the students who followed the "See Something, Say Something" philosophy and reported the suspicious behavior at Wilson High on Friday. These students helped keep our community safe.
