LBPD South Division officers, prevented theft/vandalism, recovered a vehicle, arrest suspect and recovered a firearm.

On Aug. 8, 2023 at approximately 2:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Virginia Court regarding a suspicious person looking into parked vehicles. Upon arrival, officers observed a Black Kia Rio with a broken rear window that matched the description from a previous vandalism call. Officers located five male juveniles, and through their investigation, determined they were responsible for stealing the Kia Rio. Officers found that the juveniles were in possession of auto burglary tools and were attempting to steal/vandalize a Hyundai Tucson. Officers located a firearm in the backpack of one of the suspects. Four of the suspects were detained and released on scene. The fifth suspect was transported to Long Beach City Jail for booking for possession of stolen firearm and released to a parent.
