Welcome to the LBPD Blotter!
As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department will begin posting information about recent police activity, ongoing investigations, and other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website.
At approximately 10:00 a.m. each day, community members will be able to read preliminary information about incidents that may have occurred the previous evening, including shootings, stabbings, traffic fatality and murder investigations, as well as any other notable incidents. This page will be a resource for the public to learn more about enforcement efforts, arrests, and commendable events and will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
- Murder Investigation – 6100 block of Long Beach Boulevard. Last night, at approximately 9:13 p.m., officers responded to the 6100 block of Long Beach Boulevard regarding a shooting, which resulted in the death of a male adult victim. Homicide detectives responded to the scene and their investigation is ongoing. For more information, please see the news release linked below.
News Release - No Hit Shooting Investigation – 700 block of Stanley Avenue. Last night, at approximately 9:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shots call in the 700 block of Stanley Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including casings. The suspect(s) had fled prior to officers’ arrival. No injuries were reported. The motive and suspect description are unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
- Traffic stop leads to officers locating stolen firearm. Last night, at approximately 10:08 p.m., West Division officers were on patrol in the 1900 block of Magnolia Avenue when they stopped a vehicle for vehicle code violations. Upon contacting the driver, officers learned the driver was driving without a valid license. During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded firearm in the vehicle, and through further investigation, determined the firearm had been reported stolen. Officers arrested Michael Anthony Jaquez, a 27-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked for felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon in vehicle, possession of a controlled substance while armed, willful cruelty to a child, simple possession of meth/ecstasy/GHB/etc, and possession of unlawful paraphernalia. His bail is set at $60,000. Great work West Division!

- LBPD officers were part of a Street Racing Task Force that located and impounded a vehicle involved in two illegal street takeover events in Long Beach.
