LBPD investigates officer involved shooting - May 30, 2023

Officers investigate a stabbing/person with a knife, which resulted in an officer involved shooting.
On May 30, 2023 at approximately 11:55 a.m., officers were dispatched to 2nd Street and Park Avenue regarding a report of a stabbing/person armed with a knife, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting.
The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult suspect physically assaulted a female adult and a male adult victim, in the area of Park Avenue and Livingston Drive. The suspect continued walking into Livingston Park and approached a male adult victim holding a child. The suspect punched the adult causing him to drop the child.The child sustained minor injuries as a result of the fall. The suspect continued walking towards 2nd Street where he encountered an additional male adult victim. He stabbed the victim in the upper body. The suspect continued walking in the area.
The first responding officers located the suspect within 5-6 minutes of receiving the call for service. The suspect was holding an unknown weapon. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, however, the suspect attempted to enter a residential property. An officer involved shooting occurred. Officers began to render medical aid to the suspect.
Four of the victims were treated on the scene by Long Beach Fire Department for minor injuries. The stabbing victim was transported by Long Beach Fire to a local hospital for a non-life-threatening injury. The suspect sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the suspect to a local hospital.
Officers later learned the suspect was armed with a screwdriver; it was recovered at the arrest location. No officers were injured. The investigation is ongoing.
