A message from LBPD Chief of Police Wally Hebeish:
The video released by the Memphis Police Department is disturbing and appalling. As a profession, we are required to de-escalate situations, intervene when necessary, and strive to find peaceful resolutions to incidents. The actions depicted in the video of the former Memphis police officers are intolerable. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Tyre Nichols. I, along with the members of the Long Beach Police Department, stand with our entire Long Beach community in mourning his death.

1/27/23 at 3:15 p.m.
In anticipation of the release of the body-worn camera footage in the death of Tyre Nichols, and as a precautionary measure, we are on a Stage 2 Tactical Alert. This means we will have additional officers on patrol ready to respond to calls for service or any other incidents that may develop. We currently have no information of planned protest activity in our city. We will remain vigilant and in contact with our law enforcement partners to monitor regional and national activity.

Please remember – if you “See Something, Say Something.” Report suspicious activity by calling the non-emergency phone tree at 562.435.6711. Call 9-1-1 for emergencies.

We will post updates as needed on Twitter and on our LBPD Blotter.
