LBPD East Division Officers arrest a prohibited possessor and recover an un-serialized firearm

On July 16, 2023 at approximately 1:52 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of E Ocean Boulevard regarding a person with a gun call. Upon arrival, officers observed a male adult subject matching the description given by the calling party. As officers attempted to contact the subject, he ran away from officers and a brief foot pursuit began. During the foot pursuit, officers observed the subject throwing a firearm behind a car. After a short while, the subject surrendered himself and officers took him into custody. Following the suspect’s detainment, officers located the un-serialized firearm, and the suspect was transported to Long Beach City jail for booking. The suspect was identified as Jared Robert Knight, a 38-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked on one count of prohibited possessor in possession of a firearm, one count of prohibited possessor in possession of ammunition, one count of carrying a loaded firearm, and one count of owning an un-serialized firearm. Bail was set at $35,000. The investigation is ongoing.
