TRAFFIC FATALITY
The Long Beach Police Department was notified this week of the death of a male adult involved in a traffic collision on July 4, 2017.
On July 4, 2017 at approx. 9:00 p.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle traffic collision at Santa Fe Avenue and 29th Street.
When officers arrived, they observed a 2006 Chevy HHR had collided into a tree on the raised center median. The vehicle was occupied by an unconscious male adult. Long Beach Fire personnel responded and rendered aid to the driver, and transported him to a local hospital in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation of the collision revealed the driver, 26-year-old Heriberto Maldonado of Long Beach, was traveling northbound in the number two lane of Santa Fe Avenue. For an unknown reason, the vehicle drifted left and collided with a tree on the center median.
Victim Maldonado remained hospitalized in critical condition until he was pronounced deceased on July 9, 2017.
Anyone who may have any information regarding the collision should contact Long Beach Police Collision Investigation Detective David Lauro at (562) 570-7355.
