As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night: 

  • Murder Investigation – 2nd Street and the San Gabriel River - On Dec. 8, 2024 at approximately 4:24 a.m., officers responded to the area of 2nd Street and the San Gabriel River regarding an assist fire call. Once Fire Department personnel extinguished the fire, the body of a deceased female adult was found. Due to the nature of the incident, Homicide detectives responded, and the incident is being investigated as a murder. The investigation is ongoing. A news release detailing the incident is forthcoming. 

  • No-Hit Shooting – 6300 block of Myrtle Avenue – On Dec. 7, 2024 at approximately 9:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 6300 block of Myrtle Avenue regarding a shots call. The preliminary information suggests a male adult suspect discharged a firearm towards a male adult victim, missing him. Both the suspect and victim fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing. 

Great work officers! Last night, officers safely took a gun off the streets. 

  •  On Dec. 7, 2024 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle traffic collision in the 4200 block of Broadway. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle that collided with a light post. The driver, a male adult, was still on scene when officers arrived and was found to be driving under the influence. During their investigation, officers recovered a loaded firearm and ammunition from the suspect’s vehicle. He was arrested and transported to Long Beach City Jail for booking. The investigation is ongoing.
