Megan Zabel

Patrol Bureau Deputy Chief

Deputy Chief Megan Zabel has been with the Long Beach Police Department for over 22 years and promoted to the rank of deputy chief in 2023.

Deputy Chief Zabel began her career with the Long Beach Police Department as a recruit in 2001. She was promoted to Sergeant in 2011, Lieutenant in 2018, and Commander in 2021.

Deputy Chief Zabel has worked various assignments throughout her career, including Patrol, Directed Enforcement Team, and numerous investigative task forces. As a Sergeant, she was assigned to Internal Affairs, Media Relations, Violent Crimes, and Homicide. As a Lieutenant, she worked in the West, East, and North Patrol Divisions. Prior to promoting to Deputy Chief, she was the North Division Commander.

Deputy Chief Zabel is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and received a POST Management Certificate. She has been presented with multiple commendations and awards throughout her career.
