Joshua Brearley
Security Services Division Commander
Commander Joshua Brearley began his career with the Long Beach Police Department as a police officer in 2004. He was promoted to sergeant in 2017, to lieutenant in 2023, and to commander in 2026.
Before his promotion to Commander, Commander Brearley worked a variety of assignments, including Patrol, directed enforcement and investigative details, Sergeant in the Office of the Chief of Police, policy development, background investigations and recruitment, and Patrol Lieutenant in multiple divisions. Most recently, he served as the Lieutenant overseeing the Department’s Real Time Crime Center.
Commander Brearley is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and has completed executive leadership training through the University of Southern California and the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.). He holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and is currently completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Police Administration. He currently serves as a board member of the Long Beach Police Command Officers’ Association.
