West Patrol Division Commander

Commander Greg Brown began his career with the Long Beach Police Department in 1996 as a police officer. He promoted to sergeant in 2010, to lieutenant in 2020, and to commander in 2022.

Commander Brown has held various assignments throughout his career including the Directed Enforcement Team, Field Training Officer, Advanced Officer Training Instructor, S.W.A.T, and Watch Commander. As a Sergeant, he was assigned to Patrol, S.W.A.T-team leader, Internal Affairs and Drug Investigations Section — where he also worked as a Lieutenant. He was most recently assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Section as a Lieutenant and as Acting Administrator of the Records Division.

Commander Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from University of California at Los Angeles, and a Master of Science in Emergency Services Administration from California State University, Long Beach. He is also a member of the Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Units, California Narcotics Officers’ Association, California Association of Tactical Officers, and the National Federation of State High School Associations.
