The City of Long Beach, Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine has sponsored the Free Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) since 1979. Since 1979, the City of Long Beach has served over 2 million meals to children and teens between the ages of 1-18. The program was established to ensure that during summer school vacation, children would be able to receive the same well-balanced meals that they receive during the school year. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) for Children is funded through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the California Department of Education (CDE).
