Long Beach Parks, Recreation & Marine invites seniors of all ages to participate in the many activities and programs offered citywide at the six senior centers. Activities and programs range from arts and cultural experiences, dance, fitness, life-long learning opportunities, enrichment, health and social services, nutrition, excursions, drop-in and special events, volunteerism and special interest groups.

Older Americans Month - May 2026 Events

• May 1 - Sound Bath & Nature Walk

  Immerse yourself in the soothing vibrations of Divine Sound Baths. Let healing frequencies guide you to a state of deep peace and renewal. Let the calming sounds of ocean waves, gentle rain and sacred healing bowls wash over you, releasing stress and restoring balance. This meditative journey helps quiet the mind, uplift the spirit and realign your energy. Following the Sound Bath, you’ll have the opportunity to walk the trails to explore the Nature Center in its entirety, plus check out the museum and gift store. The day will end with provided snacks and friendly conversations. Pre-registration not required.

• May 4 - May the Fourth Kickoff Dance

  Join us for a nostalgic Star Wars and 70s themed dance that celebrates the era where a galaxy far, far away first met the disco floor! Bring back the vibrant energy of the disco era by wearing bright colors and your spunkiest outfit or Star Wars wardrobe, and get ready for a night of dancing, great food, photo opportunities, costume contests and more!

• May 6 - Sustainable Independence Resource Fair

  Join us for a day of resources and information tailored to the needs of older adults, including housing support, renters’ and utilities assistance and more! Hosted in collaboration with The Aging Services Collaborative, Heart of Ida, OLLI at California State University, Long Beach, and Dignity Health Low Vision Clinic* at St. Mary’s, with additional sponsorship from the Port of Long Beach. Food will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  Opportunity drawings will be offered for a chance to win a free membership to OLLI at CSULB and more.  

  *If interested in participating in the Low Vision Clinic, please bring your: insurance card, current prescription and current glasses.

• May 9 - Pickleball Tournament

  We’re excited to invite you to participate in our friendly, rotating partner round robin Pickleball Tournament! This is a great opportunity to get active, have friendly competition and lots of fun! Medals will be awarded to First, Second and Third Place teams in both men’s and women’s divisions. If you do not wish to play, you’re invited to come out and watch the games and cheer for the teams! REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED TO PLAY! Spaces are limited! Must be 50 years or older to play. • May 12 - Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month

  Commemorate Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AANHPI), recognizing the historical and cultural contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders, with the Long Beach Older Adults Program. AAPI Heritage Month was permanently designated as an annual nationwide celebration in 1992. As we continue to celebrate Older Americans Month, join us to enjoy an eventful day with performances that showcase and highlight Cambodian music, dance, arts and other performances from other AANHPI groups. Pre-registration not required. Food and drinks will be available for the first 200 people, available on a first-come, first-served basis. • May 14 - Memorial Day Movie Night – “Pearl Harbor”

  Join us for a powerful Memorial Day celebration featuring a special indoor screening of the Academy Award-winning film “Pearl Harbor.” Guests will be immersed in an unforgettable evening of remembrance and reflection, including a beautiful candlelight dinner and thoughtfully curated activities and raffles, in addition to the film. Together, we will honor and celebrate the brave heroes who have served our nation. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Spaces are limited. • May 19 - Blooming Talent Show

  Calling all performers! Do you have a unique talent you’d like to showcase? This is your chance to shine! Join us for an electrifying talent extravaganza at our very own Older American’s Blooming Show, for our vibrant ages 50+ community!

• May 21- LA County Fair Field Trip

  Join us for our first-ever Older Americans Month field trip to the LA County Fair! Celebrate this year’s fair theme, Play Your Way, with delicious food, classic attractions, small-business shopping, and live entertainment for every interest. It’s sure to be a joyful day of exploration, connection and fun – your way! REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Spaces are limited. Sign up at your local Older Adult Program location. Buses will pick up and drop off registered participants from all Older Adult Program locations.

• May 22 - Silverado Senior Carnival Extravaganza

  Join us for a day filled with fun, laughter and excitement! The Carnival Extravaganza will feature carnival games, photo booths, prizes, a live DJ spinning the best tunes, a mind-blowing magic show that will leave you spellbound, line dancing to get everyone on their feet and moving to the beat, and much more!
